1M square feet of health care space under construction, much of it in suburban areas

The Austin metro has more than 6 million square feet of purpose-built medical office space and another 2.8 million square feet of traditional office space being used by medical tenants, according to a report from Transwestern, a commercial real estate company. Those numbers are set to grow soon with 1 million additional square feet under construction, with some big-name players expanding their footprints in the Austin area.
